Essa Twp. in historical SIMCOE Co.

The first settler in the neighbourhood of Alliston, on the Nottawasaga and Boyne rivers, was William Fletcher, who came in 1847 and built mills in 1848 and 1853. The village of Angus was laid out in 1854. A prosperous farming region.
