U.C. Land Grants: 1794 - 1825

Archives of Ontario Reference: RG53-2 MS 1 Reel 6 Index to Land Patents by District, 1793-1825

“Index of Grants of Land, Town, Park, and Water Lots in Upper Canada from 1790-1 (when the Province was divided into Upper & Lower Canada) to 31st Dec’r. 1825: Containing the details of each Patent – to whom and when issued; and all other information derivable from the Records and Old Indexes”

Prepared and Compiled under the Authority of an Order in Council, dated 9th March 1857, by Wm. Kent, Deputy Provincial Registrar

This Work was commenced on the 29th March 1857, upon the recommendation of The Hon’b. Timothy L. Merrill, M.P.P., Provincial Secretary Registrar; and completed the 30th July 1860.

In Two Volumes

“The Committee have had under consideration a Communication dated 20th Dec’r. 1856, from the Deputy Provincial Registrar, in reference to the urgent necessity that exists for the preparation of new and more elaborate Indices for the U.C. Land Grants from 1794 to 1825: the present Indices being so utterly defective as to attach great uncertainty to the accuracy of any Search made through them, and to the Certificates issued thereon.”
